Does Hostaway support video in tasks?
Practically, for operations: no. The task system your cleaners live in is documented for files and images only, and the API has no video anywhere. The only place Hostaway takes video is the website builder, which sells the property rather than maintains it. Here is exactly where the line sits, and how operators run video walkthroughs on Hostaway anyway.
Not in operations. Hostaway's task documentation describes attachments as uploading different files, with one named use case: cleaners uploading images before and after cleaning. Checklists are text-only. The API's attachment object is modeled around images, with an isImage flag and image/jpeg examples, and the word video appears nowhere in Hostaway's entire API reference. The only documented video support in Hostaway is Booking Website Pro, the direct-booking website builder, which accepts up to 100 videos at 200MB per file. Operators who want video walkthroughs in the turnover workflow put a recording link inside each Hostaway task; a tool like RapidEye records, hosts, and analyzes the video from there.
One platform, two answers: operations no, marketing yes
The clean way to understand Hostaway's video story is that it built video support for the product that sells the property, not the product that maintains it.
Tasks & checklists
- The entire attachment documentation is one sentence:
You can upload different files to tasks or for example, help your cleaners to upload images before and after they have cleaned the room.
- No file-type list, no size limit, no video mention anywhere in the task articles.
- Checklist templates are text-only sub-items; media attaches at the task level only.
Booking Website Pro
- According to Hostaway's help center:
For videos, up to 100 can be uploaded. The image, audio, video, and file size limit is 200MB per file.
- A CMS media manager for images, audio, video, and files on your direct booking website.
- Built to sell the stay: property tours, area guides, hero footage.
That asymmetry is not a criticism of Hostaway; it is the standard shape of the category. We ran this same documentation audit across eight vacation rental platforms, and none of the major PMSs supports a video workflow in its task system (Lodgify's optional mobile clips are the lone PMS crack, and the ops layer's Operto Teams captures checklist video that nothing reviews). Guesty caps owner-facing task media at JPEG, JPG, and PNG, Breezeway's checklists offer Photo as the only media element, and Hospitable's Tasks App tracks uploaded photos with no video anywhere. Where PMS platforms do document video, it is consistently on the marketing side, exactly like Booking Website Pro.
What the API says when the docs go quiet
When help articles are vague ("different files"), the API schema is where a platform's real assumptions show. Hostaway's attachment object is built around images.
{
"taskId": // "Identifier of task object, if the attachment belongs to a task."
"name": // file name
"url": // private attachments get a temporary link that expires in 7 days
"extension": // "e.g. jpeg"
"mimeType": // "e.g. image/jpeg"
"isImage": // "Whether the attachment is an image"
"isPublic":
}
// There is an isImage flag. There is no isVideo, no video MIME example,
// and zero occurrences of "video" in the entire API reference.
Two more API facts matter for anyone planning an integration. First, the Task object itself has no attachments field, and there is no endpoint to upload task media; attachments surface through conversation payloads. Second, Hostaway's docs state plainly: We do not support sending attachments in the message.
So even image attachments are effectively read-only through the API. If your plan was "we'll push walkthrough videos into Hostaway through the API," the API says no before the file format even comes up. (We cover what the API can do for turnover documentation in our guide to pulling turnover photos from the Hostaway API.)
Checklists are text. Hostaway's checklist template documentation contains no mention of photos, uploads, or files at all. If you want per-step photo evidence, the platform for that is a dedicated ops tool; if you want full-room video evidence, read on.
How to add video walkthroughs to Hostaway tasks
Hostaway stays your system of record for scheduling and task assignment. The video layer rides inside each task as a link, which is the one attachment type every PMS handles perfectly.
Here is the flow operators actually run. A recording link is placed into each Hostaway task, in the task description or as a link attachment. The cleaner opens their task list as usual, taps the link, and their phone's browser opens a guided walkthrough recorder; there is no app to install and no login to remember. The video uploads in the background while they film, so a cleaner on a tight same-day turnover never stands in the driveway waiting on an upload bar. When the walkthrough is analyzed, the report comes back as a link too, viewable from the task, email, or dashboard. Hostaway never stores a byte of video, which is precisely why the pattern is durable: it works with the platform's design instead of against it.
This matters more for video than it ever did for photos because of what full-coverage video enables. A photo checklist shows you the angles someone chose to shoot. A walkthrough video covers the whole room, which means the footage can be compared against the last turnover's footage, and the question every ops team burns time on, "is this damage new, or was it already reported?", gets answered by comparison instead of by someone digging through old task threads.
RapidEye adds the video layer to Hostaway
RapidEye is AI inspection intelligence that gives a Hostaway operation video walkthroughs without changing how the team works. RapidEye builds integrations for the platforms its customers run on, Hostaway included: your properties and turnover schedule come in from the PMS, and a per-turnover recording link goes into each task the way Hostaway is happiest to carry it, as a link in the task description your cleaner already reads. Cleaners film in the browser; footage uploads in real time; and RapidEye's AI clusters the video by room, compares it against that property's baseline, and flags damage, missing items, low inventory, and staging changes, with the new-versus-preexisting call made by comparison against prior turnovers.
Across more than 1.5 million turnover photos from a 500-plus-unit operator, RapidEye found an average of 4 issues per property that the operator's own cleaners and inspectors had already missed. Video coverage catches more than photos ever can, because nobody chooses the angle that hides the problem.

Can you attach a video file to a Hostaway task? +
It is not documented anywhere. Task attachments are described as "different files" with images as the only named use case, no format list is published, and video appears nowhere in the task articles or API reference. Even if a video file slipped through the picker, nothing in Hostaway would play, organize, or review it. The reliable approach is a video link in the task.
Do Hostaway checklists support per-item photos? +
No. Checklist templates are text-only sub-items. Photos and files attach at the task level, and they display on the Dashboard and Mobile App, but there is no per-checklist-item media requirement in Hostaway.
Does the Hostaway API let me upload task media? +
No. The Task object has no attachments field, there is no media upload endpoint, and Hostaway's docs state "We do not support sending attachments in the message." Attachments are read-only through the API, and private attachment URLs expire after 7 days.
What is the 200MB video support I've seen mentioned? +
That is Booking Website Pro, Hostaway's direct-booking website builder. It accepts up to 100 videos per site at up to 200MB per file, for marketing content on your booking site. It is unrelated to tasks, cleaners, or turnover documentation.
How do operators do video walkthroughs on Hostaway? +
With a link in the task. RapidEye injects a recording link into each Hostaway task; cleaners tap it and film in the browser, video uploads while they record, and the AI-analyzed report links back from the task about an hour later.
What's the best way to do video inspections in Hostaway? +
Pair Hostaway with dedicated video inspection software. RapidEye puts a recording link in each Hostaway task, cleaners film in the phone's browser with no app install, the video uploads in real time while they record, and AI compares every room against the property's baseline, returning a report in about an hour. Hostaway keeps scheduling and assignment; the video layer rides in the task.
