A compiled reference of 38 verified figures on what U.S. public bodies pay for commercial kitchen exhaust hood cleaning: the awarded per-hood prices on four large school district contracts (Cobb County, Georgia; Fairfax County, Virginia; Miami-Dade and Brevard, Florida), the full bidder spreads on three of them, a per-cleaning price for a correctional-facility kitchen system, the annual totals and caps on five more contracts, the cleaning frequencies buyers specify by school type, and the certification, crew, insurance, tagging, safety, and photo-documentation requirements written into the specifications. Every figure is quoted from the buying agency's own bid tabulation, award letter, board agenda item, or contract and was checked against that document before publishing. No vendor price guide is cited, and the ranges those guides publish are listed at the end as unverified. This page extends our restaurant fire and hood cleaning statistics, which carries the federal contract set and the fire-code intervals.

Key takeaways
The public record prices hood cleaning far below the vendor guides, and far less consistently. Winning bids on large district contracts cluster between $138 and $190 per hood, but the losing bids on the same jobs run to $350, so the spread a buyer sees on one tabulation is wider than the spread between cities. The unit is not standard either: per filtered section, per single or double vent system, per hood, or per school. And the low bid is not always deliverable: one district terminated its 2024 award for default and could not hold the runner-up to its price. What the buyers agree on is the spec: certified crews of two, tagged hoods, and photographic proof.
Awarded public contracts pay $137.90 to $190 per hood; the most recent, Fairfax County Public Schools in 2025, pays $150.
Three bidders quoted $137.90, $200, and $350 per hood for the same Cobb County job, a 2.5-to-1 spread.
Miami-Dade's 414-school contract works out to $604 per school per year at $171 per hood section.
Miami-Dade's per-hood price fell from $174 to $171 over five years while its annual spend nearly tripled.
Brevard solicited 806 vendors and got three bids; its 2024 low bidder was terminated for default.
Public buyers price frequency by school type: elementary hoods once a year, high school hoods twice.
Fairfax County's spec requires certified technicians, two-person crews, hood tags, and before-and-after photo reports.
How we built this report
Every figure was compiled in September 2026 from the buying agency's own procurement documents and verified against the original PDF or page before publishing.
- Public procurement records only
Bid tabulations, award letters, board agenda items, and executed contracts published by school districts, counties, cities, and a community college. Every price is quoted from the actual cell or sentence in the document, with the unit exactly as the buyer defined it.
- Vendor price guides excluded as sources
Hood-cleaning companies' cost guides, directory estimators, and calculators publish ranges with no sample or method behind them. They are the pages this one competes with, and their ranges are listed at the end as unverified rather than averaged against the contract data.
- Units kept separate, never averaged
Miami-Dade prices per filtered hood section, Cobb County per single or double vent hood system, Brevard and Fairfax per hood, Cumberland County per school. The table states the unit for every row and no single "average public price" is computed.
- Federal contracts left on their own page
The 23 federal hood-cleaning awards from USAspending.gov (median $53,865) are already tabulated on our restaurant fire and hood cleaning statistics page; this page is state and local only.
- Totals stated only where the buyer states them
Miami-Dade's $604 per location and Brevard's 86 hoods are the districts' own printed figures. Fairfax County's full hood count is not stated in its schedule, so individual rows are quoted instead of a tally.
- Independent review
Written by one co-founder, reviewed by the other before publishing.
Scope caveat: these are institutional, multi-site contracts with scheduled service, competitive bidding, and in some cases prevailing-wage labor. A single restaurant buying one cleaning at a time should expect a different price. Public hood-cleaning tabulations are rarely posted, so the set here is the record that could be read in full, not a random sample of the market.
Same job, different bids: three public tabulations

Hood cleaning contract prices, by the numbers
All 38 figures, grouped by theme, each quoted from the buying agency's own procurement document and independently verified, followed by the vendor figures that could not be verified.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools: the largest buyer, twice
According to the Miami-Dade County Public Schools board award for its 2024 hood cleaning bid (dadeschools.net), the district awarded hood cleaning services and supplies for approximately 222 sites north of Flagler Street and 192 south at $171.00 per filtered hood section to Airways Cleaning and Fireproofing Co. of Florida, with Kept Companies dba Fleetwash as alternate at $224.00; the item states the contract "impacts 414 schools across the District, which breaks down to an annual amount of $604 per location, based on the annual contract amount of $250,000," and that the district spent $135,190 on exhaust hood and duct cleaning in fiscal 2022-23. The district's price sheet (dadeschools.net) shows all four bids at $171.00, $197.99, $224.00, and $325.00 per section north of Flagler, with the fourth bidder at $345.00 south. The 2019 award (dadeschools.net) had gone to the same vendor at $174 per hood after five of 190 solicited vendors bid, when the prior year's spend was $49,000; a December 2020 supplemental award doubled the annual value from $90,000 to $180,000 to clean hoods not in the original solicitation.
Statistic 1
Miami-Dade County Public Schools awarded its 2024 hood cleaning contract at $171.00 per filtered hood section, labor and supplies included, for approximately 222 sites north of Flagler Street and 192 south.

Statistic 6
Four vendors responded to the bid; the initial term runs two years from January 17, 2024 with three one-year extension options, authorized at up to $500,000 for the initial term and $250,000 per extension, and the district extended it to January 16, 2027 at $250,000.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools, 2024 board award item and contract extensions register
Statistic 7
Ancillary prices on the awarded contract are $295.00 per trap-door installation to enable cleaning and $60.00 per filter replacement including labor and materials; filter replacement across the four bidders ranged $45 to $100.

Statistic 9
Five vendors bid the 2019 contract after the invitation was emailed to 190 potential bidders and advertised on three procurement services; the district had spent $49,000 on hood cleaning in fiscal 2017-18.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools, 2019 board award item
Statistic 10
In December 2020 the district doubled the annual value of that contract from $90,000 to $180,000 to cover additional hoods not included in the original solicitation, at the same $174 unit price.
Miami-Dade County Public Schools, supplemental award item (December 2020)
What this means: The largest school district in the set paid slightly less per hood in 2024 than in 2019 while its annual spend nearly tripled, so the growth in spend came from volume rather than the unit price. The same vendor won both cycles against four and five competitors, and the district's own $604-per-school figure is the cleanest annual benchmark a facilities writer can cite.
Cobb County School District: three bids, one job, a 2.5-to-1 spread
According to the Cobb County School District's award letter for its 2021 food and nutrition services hood cleaning bid (cobbk12.org), the district awarded inspection and cleaning of kitchen vent hood systems to Alvis Fullwood dba OMUP Enterprises at $137.90 per single-vent system and $154.85 per double-vent system, firm from June 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022 with an option to renew, with hourly rates of $127.50 for routine requests and $176.50 for emergencies. The district's tabulation sheet (cobbk12.org) shows the three bids side by side: Georgia Vent Works at $350.00 and $450.00, Hoods Unlimited at $200.00 and $250.00, and OMUP at $137.90 and $154.85.
Statistic 11
Cobb County School District's awarded price for inspecting and cleaning a single-vent kitchen hood system was $137.90, and $154.85 for a double-vent system, firm for June 2021 through May 2022 with a renewal option.

Statistic 13
The bid tabulation shows three vendors quoting $137.90, $200.00, and $350.00 per single-vent hood system ($154.85, $250.00, and $450.00 per double-vent), a 2.5-to-1 spread on identical work; the two losing bidders each quoted a flat $100 an hour for additional work.
Cobb County School District, tabulation sheet for the 2021 hood cleaning bid
What this means: This is the single best evidence in the public record that "hood cleaning price" has no market consensus even among professional bidders looking at the same specification on the same day. The high bid was two and a half times the award.
Brevard Public Schools: frequency by school type, and a terminated award
According to the Brevard Public Schools board item and attached tabulation for its 2018 exhaust hood inspection and cleaning bid (brevardschools.org), the award went to Air Flow Cleaning at $190.00 per hood, $22,800.00 a year for 86 hoods and $114,000.00 over five years, against Triple B Cleaning at $325.00 per hood ($39,000 a year) and a HOODZ franchisee at $197.08 for elementary schools and $215.80 for secondary schools and labs ($32,747.52 a year); the district solicited 806 vendors, had 14 planholders, and received three submittals, and explained that moving from a three-year to a five-year term cut the annual cost by about 11%. The tabulation's rows extend elementary hoods at one cleaning a year and high school hoods at two, so a two-section high school cafeteria cost $760.00 a year. A later board item (brevardschools.org) records that the district's October 2024 award to Kept Companies dba Grease Pro was terminated for default in March 2025 after the vendor failed to complete the Winter Break 2024 cleaning schedule required under NFPA 96 and the Florida Fire Prevention Code, and that the second-low bidder declined to honor its bid pricing.
Statistic 14

Statistic 15
Moving from a three-year contract ($77,754) to a five-year contract ($114,000) cut the district's annual hood cleaning cost by about 11% according to the district (12% on the annualized totals), from $25,918 to $22,800 a year.

Brevard Public Schools, 2018 tabulation sheet rows
Statistic 18
The district terminated its October 2024 hood cleaning award for default in March 2025 after the vendor did not complete the Winter Break 2024 cleaning schedule required under NFPA 96 and the Florida Fire Prevention Code; the second-low bidder declined to honor its bid pricing, and a new bid was issued.
Brevard Public Schools, board item on termination of the 2024 exhaust hood contract (April 2025)
What this means: Brevard's tabulation is the clearest public evidence that institutional buyers price cleaning frequency by cooking volume, with high schools cleaned twice as often as elementaries, which mirrors the fire code's volume-based inspection intervals. Its 2025 termination is a primary-source example of a low bid that could not be delivered, and of why districts schedule this work into school breaks.
Fairfax County Public Schools: the most recent price, and the most detailed spec
According to the Fairfax County Public Schools notice of award for its kitchen hood and duct cleaning contract (fairfaxcounty.gov), awarded June 25, 2025 to Tecnaclean, Inc. of Warrenton, Virginia through June 30, 2030 with three one-year renewal options, the pricing schedule is $150.00 per hood for cleaning one duct serving the hood and fan, $25.00 an hour for additional duct cleaning within a hood, and $25.00 an hour for extra or emergency unscheduled labor. The invitation for bids (fairfaxcounty.gov) attaches a performance schedule listing each school's hood count, scheduled months, and inspections per year (for example, Edison High School with nine hoods and two ducts in April and October, Annandale High School with four hoods and four ducts in January and July, and most elementary schools with one or two hoods once a year), and states that the county's Facilities Management Department has 40 locations serviced no more than twice a year and the Park Authority seven recreation centers serviced on call.
Statistic 19
Fairfax County Public Schools' current hood cleaning price is $150.00 per hood, on a contract awarded June 25, 2025 and running through June 30, 2030, the most recent published public-sector per-hood price.

Statistic 20
The same award prices additional duct cleaning within a hood already being serviced, and extra or emergency unscheduled labor, at $25.00 an hour.

Statistic 21
The performance schedule sets frequency by school: Edison High School's nine hoods and two additional ducts are inspected twice a year (April and October), Annandale High School's four hoods and four ducts twice (January and July), and most elementary schools' one or two hoods once a year.
Fairfax County Public Schools, invitation for bids, performance schedule attachment
Statistic 22
The contract also covers 40 Fairfax County Facilities Management Department locations (health department, shelters, community centers) serviced no more than twice a year, and seven Park Authority recreation centers serviced on call.
Fairfax County Public Schools, invitation for bids, technical specifications
What this means: Fairfax's $150 is the freshest per-hood price in the public record and sits inside the $138-to-$190 band the other districts set years earlier. Its $25 hourly rate applies to additional duct work inside a hood already being serviced and is not comparable to the standalone labor rates in Cobb or Rockland County.
Other public buyers: a correctional kitchen, and contracts that publish only the total
According to the County of Rockland, New York's contract award notification for duct cleaning at its correctional center (rocklandgov.com), SaniTech Services was awarded, as lowest responsible bidder, kitchen exhaust cleaning at $3,440.00 per cleaning of the correctional kitchen's exhaust system, to be performed weekdays after 6 p.m., plus $185.00 an hour for additional labor, on a contract with a $15,000 maximum for December 2023 through December 2024 under New York prevailing wage. Three more buyers publish only totals: Socorro Independent School District in Texas (sisd.net) extended its kitchen exhaust vent and hood cleaning proposal through June 2025 at a maximum of $45,000 a year in federal child-nutrition funds; the City of Lincoln and Lancaster County, Nebraska (lancaster.ne.gov) renewed an annual hood and equipment cleaning contract with Hood Masters capped at $7,000 for the city and $6,000 for county corrections; and Pittsburgh Public Schools (boarddocs.com) authorized up to $1,100 for routine hood cleaning at one culinary-arts lab.
Statistic 23
Rockland County, New York contracted kitchen exhaust system cleaning at its correctional center at $3,440.00 per cleaning, plus $185.00 an hour for additional labor, on a $15,000-maximum one-year contract under prevailing wage.

Statistic 26
Pittsburgh Public Schools authorized up to $1,100 for routine specialized hood cleaning at a single culinary-arts lab, the small end of the public record.
School District of Pittsburgh, legislative session agenda, business and finance payments authorized
What this means: The range of a "hood cleaning contract" in the public sector runs from $1,100 for one lab to a quarter-million a year for 414 schools, and a single institutional system under prevailing wage can cost more per cleaning than twenty school hoods. Price per hood only makes sense with the unit and the labor regime attached.
How buyers scope the work: per school, per hood, per cleaning
According to Cumberland County Schools' 2026 request for proposals for hood cleaning services, published through North Carolina's electronic vendor portal (nc.gov), the child nutrition program's contract covers the hood system over cooking equipment, the dish machine hood, exhaust fans, and rooftop equipment "for 80 schools" once a year plus approximately eight schools with a culinary classroom hood, priced per school with one hood and per school with two, and requires the entire exhaust system degreased from fan to hood "to bare metal in accordance with NFPA standards and practices for grease removal of exhaust systems per Code 96," with stainless steel polish applied by hand. Cherokee County School District in South Carolina bids the work as a price per cleaning at each of 17 named school locations, with a percentage escalation for renewal years two through five. Miami-Dade's price sheet notes that the rate covers the entire district, that the site count varies as schools open and close, and that all cleaning products are included in the unit price.
Statistic 27
Cumberland County Schools in North Carolina contracts hood cleaning for 80 school kitchens once a year, plus approximately eight schools with a second hood in a culinary classroom, on a contract running July 2026 through June 2027.

What this means: "Per hood" is not universal. Two of the districts here buy by the school, one by the cleaning at a named site, and the largest by the filtered hood section. A writer comparing prices across contracts has to carry the unit with the number, which is why this page never averages them.
What the specifications require of the vendor
According to the Fairfax County Public Schools invitation for bids (fairfaxcounty.gov), technicians must be certified through an organization like the International Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Association and have completed OSHA safety training for confined spaces and working at heights; the contractor must provide a minimum of two technicians per crew for all hood, duct, and rooftop fan cleaning; insurance must include statutory workers' compensation with $100,000 employer's liability, commercial general liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, and $1,000,000 combined single limit auto; every hood must be tagged to show the date cleaned; before work starts all electrical switches that could be activated accidentally must be locked out and all components of the fire suppression system deactivated; the company must have at least two years of experience; and on request the contractor must provide before and after pictures of the services "in the form of a pictorial PDF report." Rockland County's specification (rocklandgov.com) requires certification stickers on all hoods showing the date of cleaning and the next scheduled cleaning. College of DuPage's 2025 bid (cod.edu) requires the same $1,000,000 and $2,000,000 limits on both general and auto liability.

What this means: The per-hood prices above buy a two-person certified crew carrying seven figures of insurance, and the buyers want proof: a dated tag on the hood, a sticker naming the next cleaning, and before-and-after photographs in a report. The largest and most recent specification in the set treats a dated tag and, on request, before-and-after photographs as the deliverable; our commercial kitchen deep cleaning checklist covers the hood and duct items that a photograph can prove.

Quick FAQ
How much does commercial hood cleaning cost per hood?
On awarded public contracts, between $137.90 and $190 per hood per cleaning: Cobb County School District in Georgia awarded $137.90 per single-vent hood system in 2021, Fairfax County Public Schools $150 per hood in June 2025, Miami-Dade County Public Schools $171 per filtered hood section in 2024 (down from $174 in 2019), and Brevard Public Schools $190 per hood in 2018. Losing bids on the same jobs ran as high as $350 (Cobb) and $345 (Miami-Dade), so the quoted range on identical work is about 2.5 to 1. These are large multi-site district contracts; a single institutional kitchen system in a correctional facility cost Rockland County, New York $3,440 per cleaning.
How much does a school district spend on hood cleaning?
Miami-Dade County Public Schools, with 414 schools, spent $135,190 on exhaust hood and duct cleaning in fiscal 2022-23 and authorized $250,000 a year on its 2024 contract, which the district itself works out to $604 per school location per year. Brevard Public Schools budgets $22,800 a year for 86 hoods ($114,000 over five years). Socorro ISD in Texas caps its contract at $45,000 a year, Cobb County priced a contract at $137.90 per hood, and Pittsburgh Public Schools authorized $1,100 for a single culinary-arts lab.
How often do schools have kitchen hoods cleaned?
Public bid schedules show frequency set by school type. Brevard Public Schools' 2018 bid tabulation extends elementary school hoods at one cleaning a year and high school hoods at two. Fairfax County Public Schools' performance schedule lists most elementary schools at one inspection a year and high schools at two, in named months; the district's 40 county facilities are serviced no more than twice a year. Cumberland County Schools in North Carolina cleans 80 school kitchens once a year. The fire code sets the underlying interval by cooking volume, from monthly for solid fuel to annually for low-volume operations.
What do public hood cleaning contracts require of the vendor?
Fairfax County Public Schools' 2025 specification requires technicians certified through an organization like the International Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Association with OSHA confined-space and working-at-heights training, a minimum crew of two technicians on every hood, duct, and rooftop fan cleaning, $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate general liability, a date-cleaned tag on every hood, lockout of electrical switches and deactivation of the fire suppression system before work, at least two years of company experience, and before-and-after photographs in a PDF report on request. Rockland County, New York requires a certification sticker on every hood showing the date cleaned and the next scheduled cleaning.
Are hood cleaning vendor price guides accurate?
They are each vendor's own quoting practice with no survey or sample behind them, and they are not used on this page. The ranges they publish ($400 to $600 per service, $700 to $1,500 per session, $200 to $1,500 per visit) sit above every awarded per-hood price in the public record, which runs $137.90 to $190 per hood on multi-site contracts. Residential range-hood estimators are a different product entirely and coincidentally overlap the low end.
